PILOT TRAINING

The course can be tailored to suit candidate needs or by adding specific company requirements. Upon successful completion, all candidates will be issued with a course completion certificate.

About The Course

This course is tailor-made for existing pilots or seafarers up-skilling to become pilots by providing them with suitable ship handling practices based on the following topic areas.

  1. Proposed Syllabus
  2. Position of the pivot point.
  3. Types, effects, and limitations of rudders.
  4. Effects of propulsion
  5. Effects, limitations, and use of bow and stern thrusters
  6. Interpreting information contained in vessels’ maneuvering booklets/diagrams
  7. Operation of the helm, engines, and bow thrusters to execute maneuvers
  8. Theory and effects of interaction between ship, bottom, banks, and other vessels, including tugs
  9. Effects of wind and current
  10. Effects, limitations, and use of tugs

The course can be tailored to suit candidate needs or by adding specific company requirements. Upon successful completion, all candidates will be issued with a course completion certificate.

Duration: 3 Days

Accreditation Authority: Approved by Centurion University of Technology and Management.

Prerequisites

  • Existing marine pilots or those who have been referred to this course by appropriate harbor authorities

Teaching

  • Theory sessions supplemented by practical ship handling exercises on a full mission simulator.
